Algeria has been colonized by France for 132 years. The people of Algeria greatly resent this rule, which ended in 1962. Algerians have called for France to issue a formal apology for all of the suffering caused by this colonization. Algerians also want France to take blame for the 45,000 lives lost during and after World War II in Algeria, which they consider a genocide. The president of Algeria, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, supports the Algerians in this matter, demanding that France take responsibility for the lives lost. Recently this movement has increased in popularity, due to other revolutions taking place around the world.
Algeria is located in Northern Africa, and is located near other countries such as Egypt and Tunisia, which experience massive protests and riots to this day.
